ASHP Awarded Grant from the American Historical Association

Published March 30, 2022

We are pleased to announce that ASHP has been awarded funding from the American Historical Association’s Grants to Sustain and Advance the Work of Historical Organizations Program, which provides relief to institutions adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This opportunity was made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

The grant will allow us to add content to Social History for Every Classroom (SHEC), our widely-used online educational resource composed of primary sources, teaching activities, and interpretive essays for middle and high school classrooms. Over the next 12 months, ASHP will collaborate with teachers and advisors to expand SHEC's content by selecting primary sources and devising teaching activities aimed at helping students place current events in broad historical context. New materials will focus on four possible topics: anti-racism activism, elections and voting rights, epidemics and pandemics, and LGBTQ+ experiences. This project will benefit educators and students by suggesting new teaching approaches and providing updated resources to enhance historical thinking and expand users' historical understanding.
