Josh Brown has supervised ASHP/CML’s documentary, new media, and visual projects from its founding in 1981, including the Who Built America? documentaries (as visual editor) and the WBA? CD-ROMs and textbooks. He also is a professor in the Ph.D. Program in History, a co-director of the New Media Lab, and a member of the faculty of the Certificate Program in Interactive Technology and Pedagogy at The Graduate Center, CUNY. His cartoons and illustrations appear in popular and scholarly publications as well as digital media. He is author of Beyond the Lines: Pictorial Reporting, Everyday Life, and the Crisis of Gilded Age America (University of California Press, 2002) and The Hungry Eye (a serialized online historical novel, 2002), co-author of Forever Free: The Story of Emancipation and Reconstruction (Knopf, 2005), and co-editor of History from South Africa: Alternative Visions and Practices (Temple University Press,1993). His current projects include “Studies in the Visual Culture of the American Civil War,” for which he received a 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship, and Ithaca, a serialized historical graphic novel. [More]
